Did Southeastern tribal members make jewelry out of silver and turquoise ..?
I am doing a project about southeastern tribal members (from southern ohio valley to the gulf of mexico and from texas to the atlantic ocean), and we had to write a small presentation and bring in a small 'artifact' that relates to those Native Americans.
My sister has these earrings made of silver and has a small piece of turquoise and a small red rock, and a silver feather that is also attached to the silver base. I asked my mom if they were Native American jewellery and she said that they absolutely were. The only problem is... were they made by the Southeastern tribal members?
Please answer tonight, as my project is due tomorrow morning..
Thanks in advance!
no. They were probably southwest natives. Navajo, Hopi and Zuni do that sort of work. Turquoise is mined here in Arizona, and Navajo were the first natives to master silversmithing.
