Monroe Veach Western saddle?
I am trying to find out how much I might expect to get if I sell a Monroe Veach roping saddle. It's not dated, but I believe it was made by Veach himself. It's in good condition; fleece is hardly worn and a couple of strings are missing. The saddle itself is sound; all hand-tooling beautiful.
If it was made by Monroe Veach himself then I would expect it is a 1920s or early 1930s vintage and quite rare if in pristine condition and might well fetch $1400 or more from a collector. If it is circa 1940 or 1950 and in pristine condition, I expect it could fetch about half that. Might be wise to photograph the saddle and the maker stamp and send it to a collector or museum to help you identify the vintage or see if your local library has a copy of the "Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs Book" by Gretchen & Mike Graham and see if you can identify it yourself from among the great many photographs of old cowboy saddles and the history of their origin.
