Mothers of children ages 3-10! Please your advise?
I am going to start babysitting i am certified by the red cross in CPR and first aid. I am going to start babysitting for kids between the ages of 3(toddler)-10 (fourth grade). I will bring a fun bag filled with activities and toys to occupy the kids. My question is, please tell me your child's age, gender, and what i should put in the bag if I am babysitting someone that age. (Example: Daughter age is 7; enjoys crafts such as making jewelry,playing with american girl dolls, reading Junie B Jones books, drawing, and playing capture the flag.) THAT WOULD BE A 5 STAR ANSWER!!! It's not hard, all your answers are greatly appreciated, i am really excited to start!
My girls are 3 and 5. They love anything to do with arts and crafts - so for them, crayons, markers, colored pencils, coloring books, blank paper, play dough, and a few accessories (they are especially fond of rolling-pin-like devices and this play-doh syringe that makes little oddly-shaped snakes).
Beads - you can get a huge thing of pony beads from somewhere like Hobby Lobby and keep kids busy making little bracelets for quite a long time.
They also love music. Listening and dancing and singing to it. So maybe some kid's CDs with familiar or easy-to-learn songs? And they love making music as well... so maybe some simple music makign devices -- anything from kazoos to rhythm sticks, triangles, and small drums (this lollipop drum on Amazon is awesome and sounds nice too - and is tiny: http://www.amazon.com/Remo-Kids-Percussion-Lollipop-Drum/dp/B0002IHEFY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1298085212&sr=8-3)
My eldest also loves workbooks - like those than Kumon makes. Some are stickers and cutting/pasting (kids love pasting), others are alphabet and math skills. They're lots of fun, and the kids seem oblivious to how much they're learning/practicing while enjoying themselves.
Outdoor stuff? Can be as simple as a ball, a frisbee (this keeps my daughter going for at least an hour, given I'm playing with her).
And lastly, board games. This would cover the up-to-10 range too. Some of our favorites? Yahtzee is one both girls can play (we have Haba's Animal Yahtzee, which is portable and comes in its own tin -- and is a little easier for really little kids), Zitternix and Animal Upon Animal (Tief auf Tier) - are other Haba games. Zitternix is like pick-up sticks with a twist. It's more fun too. Aniaml Upon Animal is a balancing game. Blue Orange has some cool games too. My youngest likes Pengaloo, which is a memory game. Most of these are a little pricey, but I think they are worth it in terms of durability and playability. Then there's card games.
