What is that white metal ball hanging from the gym ceilings?
My son practice basketball in a lot the of the gyms in our city. In each gym there is a white metal looking ball hanging from the ceiling. It’s about the size of a large beach ball, looks metal and normally has a what looks the be a hole in it. They are always white and are hang by a chain, there are no visible wires. I also saw these at the state fair in one of the arenas also.
Its not a disco ball... I know what those are.

have you even walked across the empty gym floor in a hard heal and heard the sound of your heal echoing back to you before you got the second foot down?
that ball is to stop that from happening so much or so loudly
when speaker systems are used to announce sports events that ball keeps the feed back from squealing through the whole gym speaker system
