Can anyone provide information on the vintage butterfly wing roof?
My nana has recently died and I was lucky that he left the magnificent butterfly wing pendant. Was it something I've always admired, but as silly as I never asked where, when and where I have it. I had a look around the Internet and found similar, but nothing like this. On the back it says in England, Stirling Silver and then what appears to be a serial number. I can not do the first letter, or a B, P, R. .. T220213 etc followed. If anyone has any information on this type of pendant or can tell me where I can find out would be appreciated:) Thanks! It is a p. molded Shiptons & Co. is a Crinoline Lady Pendant. England was made by Shipton Company, Birmingham, after 1923. PAT202213 was the number patent. Since this has on the back shows that came after 1923. Had SILVER, PAT. APPLD. A 'in the back, which would have been done before 1923. A little bit of history about this fascinating gem! butterfly wing jewelry originated in England around the 1920's. UK patent number 202213 was granted to the company Shipton, Birmingham in 1923 (although the Shiptons had been doing this jewel of a few years ago.) It became really trendy, when the company Thomas L. Mott mounted an exhibit in the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. It seems that the Shiptons stopped producing this gem in 1939, the outbreak of World War II world - more modern examples from abroad, are inferior in quality and designs are not painted by hand. The reverse designs were painted on glass, with support of the Morpho butterfly's iridescent wings in South America, covered with a glass dome (with the first British examples at least) set in silver first law. Commonly encountered issues are tropical scenes, and scenes crinoline ladies Dutch. Despite scenes like the kingfisher are more rare and even made two Egyptians on the Nile, the pyramids in the background. I feel that I can not find the exact. But I hope that the information was something useful or at least interesting.
