UHM! What do I do about these bugs?
My mom has a cactus.
It's got spiny leaves and it can bloom red flowers, but not often.
It's not a tall or fat brainy cactus, but it's more of a chained leaf kind. ANYWAYS
It started growing yellow mushrooms a while ago.
The vibrant colors said it was poisonous (My mom was apathetic) so I broke them with a toothpick.
They grew back (duh)
But now! There are these little silver/grey bugs in it.
TONS OF THEM!
Like...UUUG!
I sprayed water to drown some and then the lot of them just sprawled around and went up the stem or the pot's side. - GROSS!
So...what do I do?
Please, it's so gross (I'm thinking of just throwing it out against my mom's will >_>)
the bug is probably a mealy bug, get rid of them fast
use a good insecticide, to get rid of them (like raid)
the soil probably had enough moisture to let them grow
It was a mistake to spray them with water
If the bugs are still around, then the bugs are probably a root mealy bug and the insecticide did nothing
then you should remove the soil and wash the cactus's roots well
don't kill the cactus... roots are sensitive, and soaking it in water for too long might kill it
transplanting your cactus can be dangerous (for the cactus) try using the raid one more time
I don't think the mushrooms will kill the cactus
but you can use a fungacide
pick off the mushrooms (especially before the spread their spores, and throw them away)
you can sprinkle the soil with cinnamon
or remove the soil completely and transplant the cactus in a new pot
the mushrooms and bugs might have grown probably because the soil was too moist (or something)
I hope you're saying the mushroom is growing on the soil and not on the cactus,
if it's growing on the cactus, then i can't help you
(though I've never heard of that) your cactus is rotting
probably
