What is better for a zip line a galvanized cable or a stainless steel cable?
I need the zip line to span 500-600 ft and last a few years any ideas?
It depends on several factors from the expected load to the actual environment the zip line will see.
If cost is not a factor, then stainless steel is likely to be the better choice but from a practical stand point, galvanized is the better choice. Depending on the type of stainless, it can be susceptible to attack by chlorides.
You do need to be aware that galvanized wire is not a guarantee that there will not be some corrosion on the line and it is likely to be concentrated where there are small failures in the galvanized coating. These can come from poor manufacturing techniques or from crack in the coating as the wire is stretched under load. This means it would be a good idea to inspect the whole line at least once or twice a year and even better coat it with a heavy grease if possible.

different types of snare cables?
in illinois the rules state that Snares
It is unlawful to place, set, use or maintain a
snare unless at least half of the loop is underwater
at all times. When set, the snare
loop must be 15 inches or less in diameter.
Snares must be constructed of cable that is at
least 5/64 inch, but no more than 1/8 inch in
diameter, and must be equipped with a mechanical
lock, anchor swivel and stop device
that prevents the snare loop from closing to
less than 21⁄2 inches in diameter. It is unlawful
to use or possess cable or wire snares
constructed of stainless steel metal.
what other types of snare cables are there? any synthetic ones
you basically can only use 5/64th to 1/8th inch galvanized wire rope for the cable from what I'm seeing, maybe use strong cord?
seems amazing that your can't use stainless steel, you'd think a rusty snare would be less humane then a clean one?
